Since 1930, when Martin H. Otto was our first president, the "Gold Coats" have been very much in evidence, promptly responding to all calls from the Potentate to execute any act or duty which he may designate, while also functioning as promoters of good will throughout the Temple. We have over twenty living past presidents, all of whom are active in the unit. Seven Past Potentates came from the unit. Our officers are installed in January, following the installation of the Potentate. We provide a suite of rooms at the Potentate’s Ball, decorated according to the Potentate’s theme - serving as one of the most popular gathering spots and hospitality areas for all Nobles and their ladies!
The Annual Shrine Circus is a very important activity for the 101. We sell novelties and tickets for elephant rides and other activities, and also provide a special team for handling guests in wheel chairs. Summertime finds the 101 setting up tables and serving at the Annual Zuhrah Family Picnic and the Zuhrah Ice Cream Social. The "Gold Coats" serve meals to the Nobility at the two Ceremonials each year. At the Zuhrah Family Dance, the 101 members reset tables, provide popcorn, and socialize by greeting the Nobles, their ladies and guests.
The 101 Nobles, who so often work while others play, have more social functions within their unit than any other Zuhrah organization. Because of our close contact with the public, our actions are important to Zuhrah’s image!
