The Ceremonial Unit in Costume

The Ceremonial Unit was created in 1926 by Potentate Win. S. McCartney and was known as the “Wrecking Crew”. In 1941, Potentate Walter P. Quist combined the Wrecking Crew and the Zuhrah Ritualistic staff into one unit. On October 16, 1947 a Temple resolution was passed to name the unit the Zuhrah Temple Ceremonial Unit and today its membership consists of Ritual and Director’s Staff.

The purpose of the Zuhrah Ceremonial Unit is to provide Zuhrah Temple with a Spring and Fall Ceremonial each year. The Ritual and Director’s Staff team up to provide the Zuhrah membership and new candidates with Ceremonials that are second to none. The Ceremonial Unit also assists with other Zuhrah Shrine activities such as the Shrine Circus, New Year’s Day Breakfast, our Ceremonial parade float and more.

The Ceremonial Unit meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Zuhrah Shrine Center. The Unit membership consists of 118 members. The Ceremonial Unit is always happy to receive new membership petitions from candidates. If you want to meet once a month with a great bunch of Shriners, are interested in Ceremonial ritual work and/or are handy with tools, then you’ll want to become a part of the Zuhrah Ceremonial Unit.
